Peanut Butter Chocolate Squares

Peanut Butter Chocolate Squares

I was introduced to a sample of these decadent little squares by a friend and former neighbor a few years ago. I immediately noted the recipe, but until now haven't been self-disciplined enough to trust myself with more than the memory of this simple but heavenly pairing of chocolate, peanut butter and, yes, butter and sugar. But a recent occasion to treat some co-workers was sufficient encouragement to make a whole pan. Almost as good as the peanut butter cups I made for my Dad, yet decidedly easier to prepare, you just can't go wrong with peanut butter and chocolate. Bring along some cocoa fruit treats for a diabetic and gluten-free option.

Rich and decadent sweet chocolate and peanut butter squares

Base:
  • 1 1/2 cups crushed graham crackers
  • 1 cup smooth peanut butter
  • 1 3/4 cups icing sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
Topping:
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (I used a mixture of milk and dark chocolate)
  • 3/4 cup smooth peanut butter
Instructions:
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the graham cracker crumbs, peanut butter, icing sugar and butter until well combined. Press into a lightly greased 9 × 13 inch glass pan.

  • Melt the chocolate chips and peanut butter together in a heavy-bottomed pan until smooth. Drizzle over the bottom layer, smoothing evenly with a spatula.

  • Chill until set and cut into small pieces.

Makes about 2 dozen squares

These do sound irresistible. . .I think I'm going to have to wait until I can bring some to my coworkers, too, or I'd eat them all!

would it be wrong to make these, crumble them into a batch of homemade ice cream, and then eat all the ice cream myself? because that is totally what i want to do.

I use to make these when I was a little girl and they really do taste like Reese's peanut butter cups. I love them.

I can almost taste these! I think you are right though, it is best to make them for friends, that's the safest way! I bet they were greatly enjoyed :)

I just looked at the ingredients and wow these sound like they'd be sweet! But they look so awesome and perfect I must save the recipe. I love that there's graham cracker crumbs involved - makes the bar even more appealing!

Lisa, this is just what us Reese's-deprived kids down under need!

Thanks for the recipe. It's come in handy for several last-minute bring-something-to-share occasions. I've been using margarine, dark chocolate and rice bubbles/krispies to share them with vegan and gluten-free friends.

Hey,

The pix look almost like those my mom used to make.

I thought however that she used Kellogg's corn flakes all crushed up with peanut butter, poured the choc chippits melted on top and let it sit.

Would this work or am I missing ingredients (and reality...)

Thanks for dropping by Rick. Give it a try and let me know. You could likely use crushed up corn flakes instead of the graham cracker crumbs.
